There are different kinds of roller blinds. Some allow in filtered light while others black out light completely. They can be used to reduce heat loss or gain, reduce glare or to provide privacy. Roller blinds come in a variety of colours, styles and fabrics.
Things you’ll need:
- Vacuum cleaner
- Terrycloth rag
- Damp sponge
- Mild dish detergent
- Clean dry cloth
Step1
Read the label. Find out if the manufacturer recommends a particular kind of cleaning. Certain brands, like Hunter Douglas, must be ultrasonically cleaned by a professional. A large ultrasonic machine dips blinds in a water-soluble solution and then blasts them with ultrasonic waves. Check your phone book or go online to find a qualified provider.
Step2
If you do the job yourself, start by unrolling the blinds completely. Then take an upholstery tool and vacuum each blind, being careful to not apply too much pressure.
Step3
If vacuuming isn’t enough, take a damp terrycloth rag, soak it in a mild dish detergent and then wring out gently. Unroll the blinds and gently sponge them. Dry with a clean cloth and allow to air dry completely before rolling back up.
Step4
If the blinds are smaller, carefully remove them from their brackets, unfold completely and then put them into the bathtub and rinse carefully. You can use a solution of mild dish soap. Allow to dry fully before hanging them.
Roller blinds are versatile, with many styles and uses. Decide which will work best for you and then enjoy their lovely addition to your home décor.
